Hello my name is Rachel Kelly and I am the programme leader for MA/MSc/MFA Textiles.

I’d like to welcome you to Manchester Met and to our programme and I look forward to when we will first meet in an online introduction on the 14th of September.
Throughout the units of the programme you will meet our extended postgraduate design team, lecturers and technical specialists from the textile areas.
We will be a community of staff and students who will have differing learning and working schedules and paces. We have made adjustments to enable all our students to study one unit at a time.
So for some of our students who will be coming to study on the 24 or 48 month programme routes, you will have a gentle start with formal unit learning commencing at the end of October.
But students studying the 12 month MA route or 24 month MFA route you will hit the ground running! Your first unit is entitled Design Thinking and will be led by our head of Research and Professor of design Martyn Evans. It looks to be a really stimulating start to your year.
While we are working through the processes to enable safe study within social distancing. We are prioritising workshop inductions and studio access during the first term to enable you to access the specialist aspects of your study experience safely.
As students on the MA/MSc/MFA Textile programme you will be working with Textile processes, history, literature, materials and more. Within the context of postgraduate design education, the specificity of knowledge which is developed through the process of Masters level study will enable you to develop your own ideas, projects and practices to progress with knowledge and understanding specific to you and to the expanded field of textiles.
I will be working directly with you as a personal tutor and leading some of your study units.
