Webinar: How‑to Video Production in the English Classroom: Teaching Visual and Multimodal Literacies
Presenter: Dr Victoria Pascual Bolivar
New Date: 23 April 2026
Abstract
This webinar outlines an integrative approach to teaching visual literacy (VL) in secondary EFL, informed by research and international practice. It presents a three‑phase VL Framework and a one‑page VL Lesson Planning Scheme to help teachers embed multimodality in routine classroom work. Using a Year 7 “Fabulous Food” unit on food waste in Madrid (A2 level), the session demonstrates how tasks such as video recipes, posters, and critical image analysis can build students’ skills in interpreting and creating multimodal texts while supporting language learning. The webinar also discusses key benefits (increased engagement, incidental vocabulary learning, transferability) and challenges (time, technology access, grouping, scaffolding).
