Breakout rooms can be a very effective way of engaging
students in small group collaborative active learning during live online
teaching session. This session will explore how you can use the Teams
Meeting Maker to create Breakout Rooms to use in your online teaching
sessions with MS Teams. This will enable groups of people to “break out”
from a main live session into smaller group in their own live spaces in order
to continue a separate discussions and tasks away from the main meeting or
conversation.
There is currently no native Breakout Room functionality
within Teams, but Microsoft are developing this feature and are aiming for it
to be available sometime near the end of 2020. The Teams Meeting
Maker has been developed to allow you to set up breakout rooms quickly and
easily without the need for the native functionality. It will continue to be
available beyond the introduction of the Microsoft breakout room release, so
you can continue to use this tool to create breakout room activities for your
students.
