Hi everyone. My
name is Serena and I'm now in my second year. My PhD research in British Muslim
communities engagement with theatre.
And I was very
lucky last year to get the judges choice runner-up place in 2022 and it was a
great experience. I really enjoyed it.
The process of
writing and preparing a 3 minute presentation enabled me to really crystallize
what my research is about and to
clarify what I
was hoping to achieve in my research as well. It needed to be clear, simple,
and logical. I began the presentation with some hard facts and evidence to
really ground it and I wanted to end the presentation with hope, and an
exciting outcome.
I used my drama
skills and I presented it almost like her a newsreader.
I wanted to allow
just a little bit of passion and excitement, as well as coming across as
professional. Going through the drafts with my supervisor was really helpful in
just clarifying the work and what I was aiming to achieve. The slide that goes
with your presentation, needs to be clear, not complicated and represents your
presentation in a visual form.
And so all I can
say now is once you've got your presentation, just rehearse, rehearse,
rehearse. So it becomes second nature to you and really comfortable and enjoy
the experience. It is good fun actually. And it's a chance for you to show off
your research. Good luck.
